Soon Lync for iOS devices (iPhone and iPad) will become Skype for Business. The change brings a fresh new look and simplified controls to all the features and functionality you already know.20151010sa2112-skype-for-business

We realize that you have some questions about what the change means for you. Read on!

Why the change?

This evolution combines the ease and familiarity of Skype with the communication and collaboration features of Lync and enables you to conduct your business through an enterprise-grade secure platform using the devices you already have.

What’s new in Skype for Business for iOS?

Skype for Business for iOS includes a new look and feel, at-a-glance view of your upcoming meetings and conversation history, easy call control, and other improvements. And, if your organization uses Skype for Business Server 2015, the ability to communicate with your Skype contacts using IM, audio call, and video call.

Will the update happen automatically?

A limited set of customers is participating in the technical preview. Those customers will receive an email notification with download instructions. Once the final release becomes available later this year, all Lync users, including technical preview participants, can go to the App Store to download it. (Technical preview participants should delete the preview version before installing the final release from the App Store.)

How can I participate in the technical preview program?

The technical preview program is now closed.

Does Skype for Business run on all versions of iOS?

Skype for Business runs on iOS 8.0 and later. If you’re using Lync on an earlier version of iOS, continue to use it.

I’m using Lync 2013 for iOS but my desktop has Skype for Business

The update to Skype for Business will be available through the App Store to all users with iOS version 8.0 or later. To see which version you have, tap Settings (Settings button on the iPhone and iPad) > General > About. Once the update is installed, your contacts and meetings will be there and will work just like they did in Lync. If you’re using an earlier version of iOS, you’ll continue to use Lync 2013.

You will not be able to update to Skype for Business.

I’ve never used Lync or Skype for Business on my iPhone or iPad. Where do I get it?

To use Skype for Business for iOS you need a Skype for Business or Lync account—typically the same user name and password you use when signing in at work or school. If you’re already using the desktop version of Skype for Business, then you have a Skype for Business account. Once the released version is available, you’ll be able to download it from the App Store. See Download, install, and sign in to Skype for Business for iOS devices for more information.

I don’t have an iPhone or iPad. Is Skype for Business available for Android or Windows Phone?

Skype for Business for Windows Phone is available now. See Download, install, and sign in to Skype for Business for Windows Phone 8.1 for details. Skype for Business for Android is now in technical preview. See Skype for Business is coming to Android for more information.

Finding TeamViewer Remote Support Software in Windows 10

If you’ve recently uploaded to Windows 10, you may need some help finding your way around. The instructions below show how to find and run the TeamViewer program assuming it’s already installed.

The example given in these three steps is the browsing/exploring method. Alternatively you could use the searching method by clicking the start menu icon and then typing the name of what you’re looking for.

Step 1 – Click on the Start Menu

Step 2 – Click on All Programs

Microsoft Excel Security Warning Data Connections Have Been Disabled

When using Microsoft Excel, upon opening a file, you may see the following message:

Security Warning: Data Connections Have Been Disabled

This warning message is disconcerting, annoying, and in most cases unnecessary.

While Excel can have active data connections with other files and cloud-based data sources, sometimes there can be old data connections that aren’t necessary.

Perhaps at one point you imported a CSV file into columns on an existing sheet. That import session may be saved under connections, even though there isn’t actually a dynamic real-time connection to the long-ago-deleted CSV file.

Follow these steps to remove unnecessary data connections from Excel files:

  1. Make a backup of your spreadsheet file.
  2. On the Data menu/ribbon click on Connections. A visual of this is below from Excel 2016 for Mac. See the Connections option under the Data tab.
  3. You’ll see a list of current data connections as shown below. Remove any that aren’t in use. Keep in mind that this probably won’t have any negative impact, unless you’re using a more complex spreadsheet workbook (like at work) that actually uses active data connections. Notice in the example below, there are no locations in the workbook where the data connection is being used. So, it’s just unnecessary at this point.

Mozilla Firefox Crashing or Quitting on Enterprise Website Login Panopto

If you’re using Mozilla Firefox for logging into a web-based enterprise resource (such as Panopto) and the browser crashes, you can try going to Help > Troubleshooting Information > and then click the Refresh Firefox button found under the heading “Give Firefox a tune up.”

However, if this does not fix the problem, you’ll need to completely remove Firefox and all settings files.

Use a program like Clean My Mac to thoroughly remove Firefox and all program settings. Then install it again. This will fix many website usage issues. However, any related web data data, such as cookies and saved passwords, will be removed.

Below is a screen shot of the Clean My Mac Uninstall utility. The related Firefox system files have been identified. Click the image for a larger view. The software conveniently finds and removes the Firefox settings files.

Microsoft Excel Style Colors Can Result in Lost Date Cell Formatting

Microsoft Excel has some nice pre-defined styles to easily and quickly highlight a group of cells, columns, or rows.

However, if you’re using these to mark your location in a sheet as you’re entering data or for some other temporary reason, a bug in Microsoft Excel 2016 (Apple Mac version) will cause the date formatting to be lost in any columns that were defined to be formatted as dates. So, the dates will be converted into a scientific notation equivalent number.

If this happens, you need to highlight the relevant column and then apply the cell formatting you’d prefer.

To avoid this problem, don’t use the predefined Excel styles. Instead, use the Fill color option found on the Home ribbon just to the right of bold/italic/underline. This can be applied and then removed without impacting the cell formatting.

Microsoft Excel 2016 for Mac – Error Checking Numbers as Text

By default, Microsoft Excel has error checking that will place a warning indicator next to all cells that have numbers in a cell formatted to be text. It’s common to have serial numbers and other entries that will contain text and numbers in the same field, so having a warning about it is unnecessary.

To disable this and turn it off, in the Mac version, go to the Excel Menu and choose Preferences > Error Checking > and remove the check next to “Numbers formatted as text” as shown below.

Fixing Slow Loading Startup on Wondershare All-My-Tube YouTube Video Downloader Converter Software Program

If you’re a user of the Wondershare All-My-Tube video downloader and converter software, you may notice long delays in starting the program, and system-wide slowdowns when the program is loading or running.

This typically happens after the Wondershare library listing of videos has become lengthy over many months of use. The software remains aware of the dynamic listing, and the files involved may collectively be many gigabytes in size.

For this reason, it’s important to regularly clear out the list.

Once videos are downloaded, there’s no reason to keep them in the list other than the exceptions mentioned below.

When the list has been cleared, the software should launch quickly and will run without placing excessive drain on your computer.

Note that other issues can cause slowness on your computer. This page offers a suggestion that may help, but you might need to try some other solutions as well.

Purchasing the Software

If you’ve not yet purchased the software, you should seriously consider the lifetime family pack license for about $80 you’ll get the software for five computers. The purchase is for either 5 Windows or 5 Apple Mac computers. [ Windows | Mac ]

Before Removing Video Files

Here are some considerations:

  1. Source URL. You may want to make a note of the URL where each video came from. The source or producer of videos is sometimes not apparent from the video, and sometimes there can be additional information in the description or a related news story that would be good to save with the video.
  2. Save the Videos. You’ll want to make sure the videos are safely put into a long-term archive directory, and don’t just tell the software to delete the downloaded files.
  3. Convert. Frequently videos are downloaded as MP4 (MPEG) format which is very compatible. So, these wouldn’t necessarily need to be converted. Videos that are downloaded as FLV (Flash video) should be converted if you plan to save the video and use it in the future. This is most easily done when the videos are still in the listing within the software.
