If the left mouse button for your Apple computer stops working or suddenly becomes non responsive for no apparent reason, try this trick to possibly fix the problem.

  1. Using the right mouse button, navigate from the Apple (icon) menu to System Preferences and click on Mouse.
  2. Under “Primary mouse button” switch to the Right mouse button and then switch back to the Left. Try this a couple times (keeping in mind that the alternate button will be primary), and return to Left as the primary (or your preferred button).

Tools Required to Open an Apple MacBook Pro and Upgrade the Hard Drive: Phillips PH0X40 and Torx T6X40 Drivers

This is a short post regarding the tools required to open an Apple MacBook Pro and upgrade the hard drive.

There are ten screws on the bottom notebook case cover enclosure. These are tiny phillips screws. As you’re looking at the notebook with it upside down and the hinge away from you, the three screws along the hinge end closest to the power connector will be longer screws.

The others are very tiny and short. These tiny screws go in at a slight angle to allow the screw heads to sit smoothly just below the indentation where they go in. This ensures they won’t catch on anything.

The longer screw that is closest to the power connection can have its path obstructed by the video cable pull tab. So, when reassembling the unit, be sure that the tab is away from the screw hole.

The hard drive has two phillips screws in the drive retainer bracket (on the hinge side). Once these two screws are loosened, the bracket will lift up and the drive will tilt upward and out.

Carefully remove the data/power coupler from the drive.

The four retaining screws on the side of the drive can be removed if necessary using the Torx T6X40 driver. This may be needed if you plan to put the drive in an external case for data recovery.

Apple Mac OS X iMessage Configuration for Additional Email Accounts

20140226we-apple-support-tips-500x500

Summary

It’s possible to setup iMessage to function with other email addresses. For example, if someone uses your email address (instead of your mobile phone number) to send you a text message (instead of sending you an email to your email address) it’s possible to configure iMessage to recognize that and deliver that text message to the iMessage program on your iOS device(s). This requires an existing Apple iMessage account.

Instructions

Follow these instructions to configure iMessage to function with an additional email address.

  1. Start iMessage on your Apple computer. Do this by clicking on the Messages icon in your Applications list.
  2. From the Messages menu, choose Preferences.
  3. Click on the Accounts tab.
  4. Choose your iMessage account listed in the left column.
  5. Click on the Add Email button on the right.
  6. Type the new email address in the space provided. Once entered, that address will be gray with a message next to it saying Email Sent. It will remain gray and unchecked until you confirm that you’re the owner of that account.
  7. A message will be sent to this new email address. Be sure to check your Junk folder in case it isn’t delivered directly to your inbox. To ensure proper delivery, you may want to add this email address to your contacts: appleid@id.apple.com
  8. You’ll receive an email in the email account for the address you just added in step #6 above. Click the link that says Verify Now >
  9. The link will send you to the My Apple ID page on Apple’s website. Login with your Apple ID cloud account. This step, and the previous two steps, ensure that you are the authentic owner of the email address and also of the Apple cloud account being used.
  10. You should get a message on screen that says, Email address verified.
  11. In iMessage Preferences, the new email address should no longer be gray, but instead be black with a checkmark next to it.

Apple Mac – Using iCal or Microsoft Office 2011 Outlook Calendar to Open Another Person’s Shared Calendar and Share Your Calendar

Microsoft Office 2011 Outlook Calendar

If you’re using Microsoft Office 2011 on an Apple Mac computer, and want to open a calendar that someone else has shared, or share your own calendar, you’ll find that the menu options and user interface are somewhat non-intuitive.

Here are the necessary steps to open a shared calendar:

  1. You don’t need to be viewing the Calendar or in the Calendar module to proceed. This works from within email or anywhere else in Outlook.
  2. From the File menu, choose Open > Other User’s Folder
  3. For Folder Type, choose Calendar. Outlook will default to the Exchange server you’ve connected to as the source for names and shared folders.
  4. Type in the person’s last name, then first name, or username, or search on any part of their name. The resulting list may be long if you are in a larger institution, business, organization, or enterprise.
  5. Click/highlight the person’s name and then press the Select button. This will add their calendar under Shared Calendars and synchronize their calendar events to Outlook, assuming they have given you rights to view their calendar.

Here are the steps to sharing your calendar:

  1. Go to the Calendar view/module.
  2. Under My Calendars, right click on the calendar name associated with the Exchange server account you’re using.
  3. Click on Sharing Permissions.
  4. From the resulting menu, you can click Add User, then search for available users. Make sure the person has already followed the instructions above to share their calendar with you.

Apple iCal Calendar Software

If using Apple iCal calendar software, the Delegates are selected in the Accounts menu.

Note: The iCal calendar software has two Account menus. If you go to the Calendar menu and click on Accounts, this will take you to the System Preferences Accounts settings and not the preferences for the iCal accounts. Instead, follow the instructions below.

Follow these steps to share your calendar with someone else:

  1. Click on the Calendar menu, then Preferences, then Accounts to adjust the Delegates and shared calendars.
  2. To share your calendar with others, use the Edit button found below the “Accounts I can access” list of users. Then add users to the list with the plus sign, then enter their name.

Follow these steps to view a calendar someone has shared with you:

  1. Click on the Calendar menu, then Preferences, then Accounts to adjust the Delegates and shared calendars.
  2. Use the Plus symbol to add the users who have given you rights to view their calendar.
